Dr Letting appointed Vice-Chancellor

The Chairman of  Finance, Human Resources and Governance Committee, of University Governing Council, Mr. Peter Kubebea, introduces Dr Nicholas Letting to staff after his appointment

 

The University Governing Council of The Management University of Africa, has appointed Dr Nicholas Letting as Vice-Chancellor effective 1st May 2014. Dr Letting has been holding the position on an acting capacity since June 2013.

Speaking on behalf of Council, The Chairman of the Finance, Human Resources and Governance Committee of University Governing Council, Peter Kubebea, thanked Dr Letting for demonstrating good leadership which has made him win the confidence of the Council. Dr Letting is credited for building a cohesive team and reducing operational expenses by cutting wastage, within the short period he has been acting Vice-Chancellor. The MUA University Governing Council is chaired by Eng. Michael Kamau, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure, and consists of top industry brains and academicians like Vimal Shah, Prof P.L.O Lumumba,Dr Julius Kipngetich of Equity Bank, Norah Odweso of Coca Cola Africa, Dr David Muturi, CEO, Kenya Institute of Management among others. The MUA Board of Trustees is chaired by Peter Muthoka as Chairman, and its members include Linus Gitahi of Nation Media Group, Alfred Lenana, Chairman, KIM Council and Susan Mudhune among others.

In his acceptance speech, Dr Letting thanked the University Governing Council for expressing confidence in him and called on all staff to work with him to build the university. His key focus will be building a stable financial and human resource base for the university, improving infrastructure and building international networks across the world.

Dr letting is a practicing ICPSK Member, holder of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Business Administration (Strategic Management and Finance), MBA (Strategic Management and International Business); B.Com (Marketing) all of them earned from the University of Nairobi. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Public Secretary of Kenya examined by KASNEB.

He has over 16 years in senior management in finance, human resources, leadership, governance and general management in training, research and consultancy in the Private Sector (including British American Tobacco and Kenya Institute of Management) and in University teaching and management. He is a Senior Lecturer and has been with the university since inception. He has been a Secretary to the University Governing Council since the inception of the University in 2011. He is adjunct faculty in both private and public universities and a visiting adjunct lecturer in Ghana, with the African Graduate School of Management and Leadership (AGSML). He is widely published and supervises PhD and MBA students.

Dr Letting was awarded the Head of State Commendation (HSC) on 12th December 2012 by His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki, The President of Kenya for my contribution to the Nation through Community Development in the education sector.
