MUA receives Sports Sponsorship from Optiven Limited

The Management University of Africa, on Monday 5th of May 2014 received an enthusiastic contribution to facilitate student sport activities from Optiven Limited.

Optiven Limited gave a donation of Kshs. 140,900 during the new students orientation function at the institution. The Cheque was presented by Optiven's CEO, Mr. George Wachiuri to the Vice Chancellor who in turn passed it to the Dean of students and student leader.
The sports sponsorship comes barely a month after the University through the office of the Dean of Students hired a new coach to nurture and train students exhibiting sporting capabilities in the institution.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Wachiuri advised and encouraged students to engage in sports during their stay here as the integration of sports and academics improves the overall performance of a student.

"This endowment is just the beginning, and an indication of better things our partnership with MUA will bear. We are working on strategies to ensure that in time we will fully equip all the teams to competently participate at the national games championship level," added, Mr. Wachiuri.

MUA's Vice Chancellor, Dr. Letting thanked Optiven Limited for their continued support and challenged the new and existing students to take this opportunity and excel up to the national levels. He noted that such achievements as well recognized by employers in the Job Market.

Dr. Letting also welcomed the new students to the Institution stressing the need for them to have the urge to acquire the practical skills and expertise that the Institution's faculty members were ready and willing to impart to them.

MUA Conducts Primal Leadership Training

High achievers working within teams are usually responsible for successful outcomes acquired by their teams and usually become the primal leaders and team role models.
 
Specifically, the primal leaders attitude is literally contagious and spreads quickly to the other team members and as a result the business improves its bottom line performance.

Management University of Africa conducted a Primal Leadership conference, from the 28th to the 30th of April at THE BOMA Hotel. The training attracted over ten participants drawn from various corporations.

Speakers included Dr Julius Kipng'etich, Chief Operations Officer Equity Bank, Sultan Amri, an Organisational Development expert and a Fellow of the Kenya Institute of Management and Dr Nicholas Letting, Vice Chancellor, Management University of Africa, among others.

MUA launches new academic programmes

The Management University of Africa (MUA) on Monday, March 31st 2014, Launched new academic programmes namely

  • Bachelor of Commerce (BCom)
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • Master of Management and Leadership (MML).

The launch held at THE BOMA Hotel, South C, at a cocktail party, Monday evening was presided over by the Chairman to the University Governing Council, Eng. Michael Kamau, Cabinet Secretary, Transport and Infrastructure. Other distinguished guests who attended the event were Vimal Shah, Dr. Julius Kipngetich, Linus Gitahi, PLO Lumumba and the institutions' Vice Chancellor, Dr. Nicholas Letting.

The launch comes after the university received approval from Commission for University Education (CUE) to offer these new academic programmes. The approval came after a thorough assessment by CUE on the ability of the university to offer the programmes. The teaching faculty, curriculum and facilities passed the CUE test of quality. The evening was filled with congratulatory speeches with every speaker present echoing the university's progress and challenging the university to expand its wings to other major cities.

The Masters of Management and Leadership programme is designed to equip the student with valuable skills in management, leadership, group dynamics and decision making. It focuses on the industry practitioners' practical interactions with businesses and their peers. In order to mold leaders for the African continent and beyond, the course will include academic visits to leading African universities including those in Egypt, South Africa and Ghana.

The MBA programme is designed to provide an opportunity for learners to combine both knowledge and action aimed at improving organizational performance through excellent business practices. It will be offered in an environment that develops excellent business management practices for transformational leadership and will offer options such as Banking and Finance, Strategic Management, Human Capital Development, Marketing and Logistics and Supply Chain.

The Bachelor of Commerce program will offer Specialization in Entrepreneurship, Human Resource, Marketing, Accounting, Finance and Banking and Insurance and Risk Management. The undergraduate programs will take 4 academic years, of up to 3 trimesters each year while the Masters programs will take a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 4 years, of up to 2 semesters a year each. The mode of study for all programmes will be full time, part time (5.30 to 8. 30 pm), and weekend (Saturdays and Sundays)

Emergent Student Leadership Summit

Integrity is everything: advices Julius Kipng'etich

The Kenya Institute of Management in collaboration with the Management University of Africa held an Emergent Student Leadership Summit on Saturday, the 22nd of March 2014 at the Management University of Africa's grounds. Dr. Julius Kipng'etich, Chief Operations Officer at Equity Bank and former KWS CEO, who was the Chief speaker emphasized on "Integrity" in his speech to students from Kamukunji High and Ofafa Jericho Secondary school, who attended the summit.

Speaking at the Forum, Dr. Julius Kipng'etich told high school students to acquire knowledge with integrity because "integrity is everything". "While this knowledge is important and required to run organisations and contribute to society, it must come with values. This means, for example, that students do not cram and reproduce to pass exams but take the logic of things. This necessitates that students read widely", he added.

The Emergent Student Leadership Summit organised in partnership with Kenya Institute of Management attracted over 100 students from Ofafa Jericho secondary school and Kamukunji High, all of whom benefited from the leadership forum. Dr Kipng'etich is the Patron of this summit. Other key speakers who inspired students with motivational speeches included Dr Nicholas Letting, Vice Chancellor, Management University of Africa and Mrs. Salome Githoho.

Emergent student leadership summit is an initiative meant to bring student leaders together, to inspire and prepare them to solve the challenges of today and those of the future. The experience is meant to create a forum for students to strengthen their skills of creativity, innovation and adaptability.

The leadership summit strives to provide formal, deliberate and structured leadership opportunities in the areas of individual growth and organizational development. In these forums, students are encouraged and challenged to extend learning beyond the classroom in the high quality experiential activities that will prepare them for complex issues in their community and chosen profession.

MUA Inagural Sports Day

The Management University of Africa hosted it's Inaugural Sports Day on 31st January 2014 @ MOW in South C,Nairobi Kenya.  Through the able hands of the Dean of Students department the event was a huge success as participants were as diverse as they get. MUA Awards Dinner 2014

The Management University of Africa held its first Grand Awards Dinner on Friday the 7th of March 2014 at the BOMA Hotel, South C. The Grand Awards Dinner themed, “Wealth Creation through Networking.”was organized and funded by the university.The Dinner sought to honor and award students and staff for exceptional performance and achievements in academics, CSR and all round performance.

This occasion was graced by BIDCO’s CEO Vimal Shah, as the Chief Guest, who delivered a zealous talk on Management and Leadership, challenging attendees to embrace entrepreneurship and face business-related risks head on. Mr. Shah later engaged guests on a one-on-one interaction. The Management University is a young and upcoming institution of higher learning that focuses its training mainly on Management and Leadership.

The success of the awards dinner positioned the university as that which appreciates talent and rewards staff plus students, leading by example amongst its existing competitors. Winners of the various categories like Sports personality, Student of the year, just to point out a few, were awarded with Prizes and Certificates by Mr. Shah, with the help of Dr. Nicholas Letting, VC, MUA.

For entertainment lovers, the Helen Mtawali led Afrizo Band,ensured that guests enjoyed their time by delivering a passionate performance of their lyrics as well as the greatest hits requested by attendees. Alive DJ was also present mixing the latest hits to warranta nice time for party rockers
